Tom's Catwoman Collection (2025)
I photographed these select pieces from my mate Tom Godfrey's (@tom__godfrey) Catwoman collection and asked him some questions:
DR: Tom, do you remember where you collected it all?
TG: I do! Some things I bought myself, but many were gifts and I vividly remember the unexpected joy of receiving them — the Barbie, for example, was a birthday present from my girlfriend and I opened it around some other friends who were quite surprised by my extreme reaction. Probably if I was a real collector I’d have left her in her box, but I was so excited to see all the details and accessories!
DR: Tell me about the authentic show-worn piece from Halle Berry’s leather trousers?
TG: This is the most recent addition, a surprise for my 30th during Covid. The company that made these costume cards doesn’t exist any more, but they specialised in films and TV shows of the ‘90s and ‘00s, like Lost and the X Files, and you could get things like a piece of a bedsheet from Die Another Day.
There’s a tension I like, this costume that wasn’t considered important enough to auction or display whole, but that was valuable enough to sell in pieces. I’ve seen the Michelle Pfeiffer Catwoman costume painstakingly preserved in a museum, but this one was cut up and sold to the masses — which way is better? Probably keeping things whole, but I wouldn’t have anywhere to display the full thing.
DR: Haven’t seen Catwoman myself, it looks fab — worth a watch?
TG: Well I’d probably say no? But also yes. Or you could read the novelisation, I’ll lend it to you. It’s a bad movie and every time I watch it I see something else that I love — it has a spiritual successor in Madame Web, another film that people hate that I really enjoyed. If you do watch it, keep an eye on Halle Berry’s incredible style, in particular her basketball cuffs… I’ll say no more.
